PFC chokes

Non-linear loads, like switching power supplies and frequency converters, cause disturbances in the mains supply. To suppress the harmonics commonly “Power Factor Correction” (PFC) controllers are used. Such a PFC changes the load to the mains power into sinusoidal again. In order to do so the PFC controller, depending on the phase angle, directs current into the mains supply also.

For the temporarily change of current polarity the PFC controller uses an energy storage coil. This coil should not be overheated by its Eddy-current losses. Because of that we supply PFC coils with special metal powder cores and optionally a second winding through which the PFC controller itself can be supplied. Also we supply unique thermal conductive material with which excessive heat can be disposed of.
